In 2013 the Pines Volleyball Club started introducing Beach Volleyball in Nelson as a way of providing more volleyball opportunities to the region. This is where the Club has seen an opportunity to develop young athletes in the region as part of their club vision of developing a pathway for youth in the game of Volleyball.
In October 2013 the Club started its 2aside Beach Volleyball league. The nightly league has been a staple for the club in providing a local beach volleyball competition during the spring-summer months and has seen a steady rise in the number of teams competing each year.
"Beach Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, it brings a challenging spark to the game of Volleyball and can be enjoyed both socially and competitively. Pines Volleyball Club caters for all levels of experience with most tournaments having multiple divisions."
The Club also run different formatted tournaments on weekends. (VNZ Ranking Point Tournaments, King/Queen of the Beach, and Age Group/Secondary School Championships) These tournaments are designed to prepare the athletes with experience leading up to VNZ Age Group/Secondary School Championships and those athletes competing on the NZ Pro Beach Volleyball Circuit.
